Just how long can someone stay dead here? Draco has been gone for over a week and he still hasn't come home.

[He sighs, running his fingers through his hair. It's worrying. Hisoka won't take it well if Draco doesn't return soon, and he doesn't know how much his sensitive partner can take.]

[Already regretting he put his thoughts in the journal, he changes the subject.]

Anyway. Welcome to town, new people. I'm Tsuzuki. If you need any help finding a place to stay, or just want to find a temple, I'm always around.

[In fact, if anyone is out to find him, they will be able to find him just where he'd sending the video from, the Tsukino Shrine. Later in the day he will take a walk in the woods to clear his head.]

A little bit of both. It's taxing work. And--

[He smiles wryly, looking away. The bird on Eley's shoulder pushes its head against his fingers.]

I've heard I'm not the easiest person to work with.

... [The way Tsuzuki turns away from him and smiles like that just seems to make the Spirit more interested in this whole affair. He lowers his hand away from the bird, paying more attention to the other man, much to the bird's disappointment.]

I do not see why. You have shown nothing but kindness to me so far. I might even go as far as to say that I would not mind working alongside you. Or at least attempting it.

[There's something about what Zevran says that hits home. Tsuzuki hadn't realized how much of his freedom he willingly gave up, and how much he secretly still hunger for it. Perhaps that's why he likes the birds so much. They can appreciate the freedom in ways he cannot.]

You're right. But I don't think you can really appreciate the beauty of freedom until you know what the alternative is.

So you would cage them to bring them further joy upon their release?

[He quirks a brow at the taller man, puzzled.]

Even if they might appreciate their freedom more afterward...something is lost. Something that cannot ever be regained. [His voice dips into something soft, distantly pained.] Bars linger even after one has been set free.

On just the heads? [That sounds remarkably unpleasant.]

There were side effects. Imagine being stuck in a zombie body, but with your own consciousness intact... Oh, but it was all resolved in the end, of course.

I've only seen those in illustrations. I believe they can take on any shape they want.

Back home they can possess people. So in a way they can take other people's shapes, too.

[That's a lie. He can imagine it quite clearly, and he wraps his arms around himself to stop the shudder.]

...Did the body rot while you were still in it?

No one stays away from town that long without being dead.

More or less. Until the full-cure was developed, it was essentially... being a consciously thinking zombie.

[Nope, not a pleasant thing at all. Although he's forced himself to make notes on the experience, anyway. You just never know when you need a file on this information.]

What do they do with that? Pranks?

I wish.

[That's unexpectedly sweet. Tsuzuki ducks his head, suddenly feeling shy from all this kind words. The fuda bird dislikes the lack of attention, so it climbs up to Eley's head instead.]

....I think I'd like that. If the town ever needs help, maybe we should try it.

[Eley seems a little surprised at his sudden shyness. Did he say something wrong? Evidently not since he seems to be confirming his agreement with him. He nods.]

I would be willing to try.

[He's a little distracted however when the tiny bird climbs up onto his head. He looks up though he can't see it anyway, then reaches up to poke it a little.]

How long will this little one be with us?

Not so friendly, huh?

[Oh, that sounds intriguing. In another life, another time, perhaps she would have been a shinigami herself.]

It's no wonder Hisoka's so fond of you. What do you need to finish?

Fo-- we're just two people who talk to each other, it's not like he's fond of me. [ That sounds embarrassing saying it that way, Tsuzuki! ] In the afterlife, I started a mission to take down God with a battlefront. Right now, everyone who's still around in the SSS there that hasn't moved on already is in danger of having every single memory suppressed, their personality taken away from them, and being forced into becoming basically nothing. This place took me when I was in the middle of trying to save everyone. I know time doesn't flow here but I can't.. I can't just sit back and be okay with how things were left. I can't let them down. [ Not again. ]

You could say that. They like to bite.

Well...maybe he's a little busy. He must have something very important to do.

[That must be it. He couldn't have died. Tsuzuki really must have made a mistake.]

Would this be the part where I ask if you've got flesh-eating beasts or vampires around you?

No, no. Not all the time.

Even so, why haven't he come home to sleep? His room's untouched.

Not all the time, but I see you aren't going to deny their existence entirely, huh?

[It's almost kind of cute how flustered the two of them get when he teases them about it.]

I understand. I would be anxious if I was in your situation, too.

What kind of god do you need to fight? Maybe there's some way to practice here, until you get home.
