Fuda # 6

[It's a beautiful, sunny day. The temperature is apparently between "boiling point" and "molten lava", and every sane person is inside, hugging their air conditioner.]

[Except for this guy. Tsuzuki is searching the grass outside House 49. He looks downright distressed, sitting on his knees and brushing his fingers through the lawn and dirt. When he's down with one patch, he hurries to the next one, not caring much about the heat even though his body does.]

It has to be around here somewhere...

There's only so much you can say to a person who lost his parents when he was barely a year old. Harry's been through a lot, and the fact that he's not gone off his rocker for it shows he really has a pure heart. [And she loves him like a brother for it.]

Yes, yes they are. [But she looks conflicted.] Very rarely can they be used to help anyone. The worst of them are three curses known as the Unforgivable Curses. Using any of them on a fellow human results in a lifetime sentence in Azkaban, the wizard prison.

[She laughs at that.] Yes. That's the only reason Harry and Ron are my friends now - they saved me from it on Halloween of our very first year at school - and I wouldn't be the person I am today if they hadn't.

Yes, I think so, too. A lot of people wouldn't have been able to handle that. [Him included.]

That sounds like a severe punishment. What exactly do the Unforgivables do, Hermione?

No wonder you three are such close friends. [Then it clicks in his mind, and his eyes light up.] You had Halloween in your world! Finally, someone who knows what it is!

He's a very strong person. [oh if only you knew what he put up with because of it, Tsuzuki. His aunt and uncle were horrible.]

There are three of them: The Imperius Curse, which renders someone completely under the caster's control, the Cruciatus Curse, which is a form of physical torture, and the Killing Curse. They're terrible spells. [One of which, she has actually used. The idea gives her very visible chills.]

We did have quite a lot in common after that. [she laughs.] Yes, we had Halloween and Christmas and a lot of other holidays typical on Earth.

[identity profile] purpledemoneyes.livejournal.com 2010-10-01 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
He's lucky. [If only someone would app them. :o]

..... Those are horrible! Is there any way to hide from them? Or counter them?

There's a lot of people here that hasn't heard of them. It's such a shame! The kids should get a chance to trick-or-treat, at least.

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
He is. [Oh god, that'd be awesomely horrible XD]

If you know they're coming, it's possible to dodge them, but there's no way to counter or block them. It's possible to throw off the Imperius Curse, but your mind has to be very strong. There's no way to stop the other two. [And the way she looks at the mention of them... is not the usual happy Hermione. It's more the cold, resigned look she's worn over the last year at home.]

Maybe we ought to come up with a way to do that here.

[identity profile] purpledemoneyes.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Not to mention, it looks like he has some great friends. [I would love them forever. XD]

...Sounds like nightmare spells. [He notices, so he's gentle when he asks the next question.] You look a little pale. Are you all right?

I'd like it if we could. Maybe inform a handful of houses to keep candy around for Halloween, so we can let the kids go to a few houses.

And maybe create some pumpkin pie. ♥

We do try to help him out when we can. [me too |D;]

They are... they're awful. [She glances up at him when he asks that and sighs.] I've experienced them all in some capacity. One of Voldemort's Death Eaters used the Cruciatus Curse on me. [Come to think of it, another of the Death Eaters cast the Imperius Curse on all the fourth years that year, though they thought he was an Auror at the time.]

We might be able to. Hopefully Luceti itself won't have surprises like last year for us.

[identity profile] purpledemoneyes.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
They did what to you? [Tsuzuki gasps. If the Death Eater would go far enough to torture teenagers, they remind far too much of a person he''d rather forget.] Are you okay, Hermione?

What happened last year?

♥!

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm fine now. It was... a little difficult at the time, obviously, but that's what happens when you travel with the Death Eaters' sworn enemy. [She shrugs.]

We were hiding from them all year, trying to find a way to stop Voldemort for good.

You don't want revenge on them for putting you through that?

And then you ended up here instead.

I'd rather they spent the rest of their lives in Azkaban. It's not up to me to kill everyone I don't like.

Yes. It's much nicer not having to run from everyone all the time.

Azkaban?

I can imagine it must be hard to constantly worry about defending yourself.

Wizard prison on an island guarded by dementors.

It was, but we had to do it. One of us was always on guard duty and I always had protective enchantments around our tent.

[identity profile] purpledemoneyes.livejournal.com 2010-10-19 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
What kind of a job is a dementor?

Do you ever wake up and imagine you're back in the tent?

♥!

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-10-23 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
It's not a job. It's a being. They're soulless beings made up entirely of despair. Getting close enough to one will make you relive your worst fears in the worst way imaginable. It'll be as though all the happiness has gone from the world, as though you're drowning in despair. They're horrible. [She shudders a little. Dementors are one of the very few things she can't deal with well.]

Sometimes. And then I have to wonder why no one's in the room with me and where all our stuff has gone until I remember that I'm here and not there.

[What. What. Those sounds like Tsuzuki's own personal nightmares come to life.] And you let them get near people?!

[Horrified, he can barely compose himself enough to continue.] I've felt the same way sometimes. It's a bad feeling, isn't it?

Not normally, no. They guard our worst criminals normally. Though Voldemort likes to use them for his own deeds. But that's why we have the Patronus Charm. It fights off dementors for us.

[She understands and gives him a sympathetic look.] They're truly awful. Here- Expecto Patronum!

[It takes her a second try to come up with the Patronus, but eventually a silvery white translucent otter soars out of her wand and suddenly things start to feel a little more bearable. It's almost as though the creature now looking up at him is giving off an aura of peace and happiness...]

[He reaches out to touch the otter, amazed by how easily it swept him clean of darker emotions. Tsuzuki doesn't think he's ever felt this calm]

I want to learn how to do magic like this. Did you call it a Patronus?

♥!

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-10-29 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I don't know if it's possible to translate it across magic types, but it's a spell I'd like to teach the DA if we can find a way to make it work.

[The otter seems to have a mind of its own after a while. She leans into the touch, looking pleased.]

[identity profile] purpledemoneyes.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's possible, at least not yet. It looks really difficult. [When the otter responds favorable to him, he smiles happily and ruuns hind hand down its back.]

It's beautiful, Hermione. Does it have a name?

♥!

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-10-31 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It is. Most full-grown wizards can't produce a corporeal Patronus like this. [Pause.] Harry learned in our third year and he taught the original DA in our fifth year. The spell itself is a manifestation of positive feelings, very strong and happy memories, and it takes a lot of concentration to keep it going. It manifests as a corporeal animal, the closest form in personality to its caster, and it will always retain the same form once cast.

[Terri probably feels like mist and positive energy, but she's definitely moving closer. She likes Tsuzuki already!]

Thank you. I decided to call her Lux Aeterna, which is Latin for Light Eternal. Terri for short. She seemed to like the name.

♥!

[identity profile] purpledemoneyes.livejournal.com 2010-11-01 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Very interesting. It takes a little while for him to digest everything about the spell.] What do you do if you don't have any happy memories?

[Tsuzuki can't help but grin when he hears the name. It helps that the otter is made out of happy memories, because he feels his spirit be lifted from being in its presence.] That is a fantastic name for her. Nice to meet you, Terri!

♥!

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[She can't help looking at him sympathetically. She can't imagine not having happy enough memories, though... she has enough trouble with the spell that it's practically one and the same.]

You make one strong enough and keep trying until you get it. [She pauses.] It's the only spell I've ever had trouble with.

[Terri seems to be totally soaking up the attention.] I'm glad you like it. It seemed appropriate. I think she likes you.

♥!

[identity profile] purpledemoneyes.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tsuzuki didn't mean to reveal that much about himself. Most shinigami didn't have a lot of happy memories. That's why they took the job.] So which happy memory did you use?

[He's distracted by the otter again, and looks into one of her silver eyes.] That'd be wonderful, because I like her.

♥!

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[She pauses, just watching Terri, who seems to be intrigued by Tsuzuki.] I use several. It's more an idea of the friendship I have with Harry and Ron, all the good times we've been through together, knowing they'll always be here for me, no matter how much we row. Knowing there's still good in the world.
