Fuda # 6
[It's a beautiful, sunny day. The temperature is apparently between "boiling point" and "molten lava", and every sane person is inside, hugging their air conditioner.]
[Except for this guy. Tsuzuki is searching the grass outside House 49. He looks downright distressed, sitting on his knees and brushing his fingers through the lawn and dirt. When he's down with one patch, he hurries to the next one, not caring much about the heat even though his body does.]
It has to be around here somewhere...

Yes, yes they are. [But she looks conflicted.] Very rarely can they be used to help anyone. The worst of them are three curses known as the Unforgivable Curses. Using any of them on a fellow human results in a lifetime sentence in Azkaban, the wizard prison.
[She laughs at that.] Yes. That's the only reason Harry and Ron are my friends now - they saved me from it on Halloween of our very first year at school - and I wouldn't be the person I am today if they hadn't.
♥!
That sounds like a severe punishment. What exactly do the Unforgivables do, Hermione?
No wonder you three are such close friends. [Then it clicks in his mind, and his eyes light up.] You had Halloween in your world! Finally, someone who knows what it is!
♥!
There are three of them: The Imperius Curse, which renders someone completely under the caster's control, the Cruciatus Curse, which is a form of physical torture, and the Killing Curse. They're terrible spells. [One of which, she has actually used. The idea gives her very visible chills.]
We did have quite a lot in common after that. [she laughs.] Yes, we had Halloween and Christmas and a lot of other holidays typical on Earth.
♥!
..... Those are horrible! Is there any way to hide from them? Or counter them?
There's a lot of people here that hasn't heard of them. It's such a shame! The kids should get a chance to trick-or-treat, at least.
♥!
If you know they're coming, it's possible to dodge them, but there's no way to counter or block them. It's possible to throw off the Imperius Curse, but your mind has to be very strong. There's no way to stop the other two. [And the way she looks at the mention of them... is not the usual happy Hermione. It's more the cold, resigned look she's worn over the last year at home.]
Maybe we ought to come up with a way to do that here.
♥!
...Sounds like nightmare spells. [He notices, so he's gentle when he asks the next question.] You look a little pale. Are you all right?
I'd like it if we could. Maybe inform a handful of houses to keep candy around for Halloween, so we can let the kids go to a few houses.
And maybe create some pumpkin pie. ♥
♥!
They are... they're awful. [She glances up at him when he asks that and sighs.] I've experienced them all in some capacity. One of Voldemort's Death Eaters used the Cruciatus Curse on me. [Come to think of it, another of the Death Eaters cast the Imperius Curse on all the fourth years that year, though they thought he was an Auror at the time.]
We might be able to. Hopefully Luceti itself won't have surprises like last year for us.
♥!
What happened last year?
♥!
We were hiding from them all year, trying to find a way to stop Voldemort for good.
♥!
And then you ended up here instead.
♥!
Yes. It's much nicer not having to run from everyone all the time.
♥!
I can imagine it must be hard to constantly worry about defending yourself.
♥!
It was, but we had to do it. One of us was always on guard duty and I always had protective enchantments around our tent.
♥!
Do you ever wake up and imagine you're back in the tent?
♥!
Sometimes. And then I have to wonder why no one's in the room with me and where all our stuff has gone until I remember that I'm here and not there.
♥!
[Horrified, he can barely compose himself enough to continue.] I've felt the same way sometimes. It's a bad feeling, isn't it?
♥!
[She understands and gives him a sympathetic look.] They're truly awful. Here- Expecto Patronum!
[It takes her a second try to come up with the Patronus, but eventually a silvery white translucent otter soars out of her wand and suddenly things start to feel a little more bearable. It's almost as though the creature now looking up at him is giving off an aura of peace and happiness...]
♥!
I want to learn how to do magic like this. Did you call it a Patronus?
♥!
[The otter seems to have a mind of its own after a while. She leans into the touch, looking pleased.]
♥!
It's beautiful, Hermione. Does it have a name?
♥!
[Terri probably feels like mist and positive energy, but she's definitely moving closer. She likes Tsuzuki already!]
Thank you. I decided to call her Lux Aeterna, which is Latin for Light Eternal. Terri for short. She seemed to like the name.
♥!
[Tsuzuki can't help but grin when he hears the name. It helps that the otter is made out of happy memories, because he feels his spirit be lifted from being in its presence.] That is a fantastic name for her. Nice to meet you, Terri!
♥!
You make one strong enough and keep trying until you get it. [She pauses.] It's the only spell I've ever had trouble with.
[Terri seems to be totally soaking up the attention.] I'm glad you like it. It seemed appropriate. I think she likes you.
♥!
[He's distracted by the otter again, and looks into one of her silver eyes.] That'd be wonderful, because I like her.
