Fuda # 6

[It's a beautiful, sunny day. The temperature is apparently between "boiling point" and "molten lava", and every sane person is inside, hugging their air conditioner.]

[Except for this guy. Tsuzuki is searching the grass outside House 49. He looks downright distressed, sitting on his knees and brushing his fingers through the lawn and dirt. When he's down with one patch, he hurries to the next one, not caring much about the heat even though his body does.]

It has to be around here somewhere...

[That would be interesting to say the least XD]

Dangerous or mortifying and embarrassing.

What do you call them? And no, there aren't any "sages" back home. We're all witches and wizards or Muggles. Unicorns are fairly common, but they live out of sight of most people and only like to be approached by women. They're skittish and extremely valuable.

[As long as neither have weapons or wands at hand.~]

Sounds like you know this too well. How did you find out you had magical abilities?

Well, we call them kirin. They have a very strong sense of justice, and when they walk they do not disturb the grass on the ground. They're usually very peaceful, but not timid.

What did you mean, 'valuable'?

[Which will be never XD]

Well, being able to find exactly what I wanted when I wanted it, especially in books. I'd always turn to the right page when it really came down to a test. Mine wasn't ever really life-threatening, but it was important to me. [That whole fear of being wrong thing. Yeah.]

Oh I see. If only ours worked that way. Their horns and tails are very powerful and can be used in spells or wandmaking, and their blood is said to keep someone alive even if they're an inch from death, but a terrible price comes with it. Killing such a pure animal to drink its blood means you'll be cursed. Your life will be cursed from then on. It's not really worth it. [Unless your name is Voldemort.]

[Tsuzuki can dream, can't he? XD]

So the magic responded to what was in your heart? Or maybe I should say, what was important to you. There's a difference between you two. ...I think I know what I'd wish for, if I had gotten magical abilities when I was young.

....Cursed how?

[...Probably.]

Yes, but that was before I knew about witches and wizards and all manner of things and the before the Second wizarding war. And besides that, getting good marks in school will help me help others in the long run, especially underprivileged ones.

[She shrugs.] We're not certain for sure. I've heard you'll live a half-life. It's like you're not really alive or dead, you're in between, and probably a lot less human for slaying something so pure. [another half-shrug.] The only person I know who's done it is now dead and the one who was possessing half his head is currently the one we're hiding from back home. So, unfortunately, I can't ask anyone, either.

Did your mother and father know about it, so they could teach you how to control it better? I didn't even know there were wizarding wars. Who won?

That... I'm pretty sure that's accurate. It sounds [heartbreakingly familiar] like what some people go through in Japan. Although I have no idea how people can possess only half a head...

♥!

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
No. They're Muggles and the Wizarding World is kept a complete secret from Muggles unless they have close Wizard relatives. I'm the only witch in my entire family, so they didn't understand it any more than I did.

And that depends on which war you're talking about. The first one we won. Bit of an accident, really. The second one was still going on when I arrived here. It wasn't looking too good.

I don't understand it, either. Voldemort was only in a spirit form. He had no body at the time and barely enough strength to do anything. He could only survive by unicorn's blood and riding along in another's body. So it wasn't really true possession. Quirrel could act and think for himself, though he obeyed Voldemort's commands.

Oh, I see. How did you prevent the other kids from stoning you? I mean, you were different, and you had to go to school...I hope your parents were supportive.

Sorry to hear that. What did you do to win the first one?

That sounds like a very complicated spell or curse. It sounds like what could happen if a half-god was killed back in Japan. Sometimes they could possess their murderers to get revenge.

Voldemort? That's such a strange name.

They didn't really notice. It's not like it was very obnoxious or anything. My parents were very supportive. They love being part of the Wizarding world, even if only through me.

I was nearly two years old. Voldemort tried to kill Harry and it backfired. Nearly killed him instead. No one knows why, but he lost all his powers.

I don't know, actually, and it's one thing I don't care to know more about. Quirrel wasn't in his right mind by the time I knew him.

He chose it in school apparently.

[identity profile] purpledemoneyes.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
But how is that possible? If Harry's your age he wouldn't have been older than two when it happened.

Probably not worth delving into. If you know too much about the harmful spells, there's always a chance that they begin to look tempting to try out.

Strange how things that happen in school can have such a devastating impact on your life.

He was a few months past his first birthday, actually, and your guess is as good as anyone else's. [Minus a few of them, of course.] No one really knows how he survived.

For some people. For others it's just disgusting.

Or a large impact at all, be it good or bad. [Hi there, Fred and George.. Umbridge... and all those Death Eaters.]

He was barely a baby. Poor kid, I had no idea.

I have to wonder if it's something that people grow to like. You know, like alcohol? Certain people become heavy drinkers, while others can't stand the stuff.

True. What would you say made the biggest impact on you, Hermione?

Everyone at home knew, but I don't know how many really know it here. He doesn't like to talk about it.

The Dark Arts are a lot like that sort of thing. Vile and destructive.

I suppose everybody and nobody bugs him about it, since it sounds like a big mystery.

Some people might think the secrecy of the dark arts is fascinating. Are all of them bad?

What. Seriously?

There's only so much you can say to a person who lost his parents when he was barely a year old. Harry's been through a lot, and the fact that he's not gone off his rocker for it shows he really has a pure heart. [And she loves him like a brother for it.]

Yes, yes they are. [But she looks conflicted.] Very rarely can they be used to help anyone. The worst of them are three curses known as the Unforgivable Curses. Using any of them on a fellow human results in a lifetime sentence in Azkaban, the wizard prison.

[She laughs at that.] Yes. That's the only reason Harry and Ron are my friends now - they saved me from it on Halloween of our very first year at school - and I wouldn't be the person I am today if they hadn't.

♥!

[identity profile] purpledemoneyes.livejournal.com 2010-09-26 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think so, too. A lot of people wouldn't have been able to handle that. [Him included.]

That sounds like a severe punishment. What exactly do the Unforgivables do, Hermione?

No wonder you three are such close friends. [Then it clicks in his mind, and his eyes light up.] You had Halloween in your world! Finally, someone who knows what it is!

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-09-29 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
He's a very strong person. [oh if only you knew what he put up with because of it, Tsuzuki. His aunt and uncle were horrible.]

There are three of them: The Imperius Curse, which renders someone completely under the caster's control, the Cruciatus Curse, which is a form of physical torture, and the Killing Curse. They're terrible spells. [One of which, she has actually used. The idea gives her very visible chills.]

We did have quite a lot in common after that. [she laughs.] Yes, we had Halloween and Christmas and a lot of other holidays typical on Earth.

♥!

[identity profile] purpledemoneyes.livejournal.com 2010-10-01 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
He's lucky. [If only someone would app them. :o]

..... Those are horrible! Is there any way to hide from them? Or counter them?

There's a lot of people here that hasn't heard of them. It's such a shame! The kids should get a chance to trick-or-treat, at least.

♥!

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-10-02 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
He is. [Oh god, that'd be awesomely horrible XD]

If you know they're coming, it's possible to dodge them, but there's no way to counter or block them. It's possible to throw off the Imperius Curse, but your mind has to be very strong. There's no way to stop the other two. [And the way she looks at the mention of them... is not the usual happy Hermione. It's more the cold, resigned look she's worn over the last year at home.]

Maybe we ought to come up with a way to do that here.

♥!

[identity profile] purpledemoneyes.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Not to mention, it looks like he has some great friends. [I would love them forever. XD]

...Sounds like nightmare spells. [He notices, so he's gentle when he asks the next question.] You look a little pale. Are you all right?

I'd like it if we could. Maybe inform a handful of houses to keep candy around for Halloween, so we can let the kids go to a few houses.

And maybe create some pumpkin pie. ♥

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-10-06 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
We do try to help him out when we can. [me too |D;]

They are... they're awful. [She glances up at him when he asks that and sighs.] I've experienced them all in some capacity. One of Voldemort's Death Eaters used the Cruciatus Curse on me. [Come to think of it, another of the Death Eaters cast the Imperius Curse on all the fourth years that year, though they thought he was an Auror at the time.]

We might be able to. Hopefully Luceti itself won't have surprises like last year for us.

♥!

[identity profile] purpledemoneyes.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
They did what to you? [Tsuzuki gasps. If the Death Eater would go far enough to torture teenagers, they remind far too much of a person he''d rather forget.] Are you okay, Hermione?

What happened last year?

♥!

[identity profile] loyalotter.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm fine now. It was... a little difficult at the time, obviously, but that's what happens when you travel with the Death Eaters' sworn enemy. [She shrugs.]

We were hiding from them all year, trying to find a way to stop Voldemort for good.

♥!

You don't want revenge on them for putting you through that?

And then you ended up here instead.

I'd rather they spent the rest of their lives in Azkaban. It's not up to me to kill everyone I don't like.

Yes. It's much nicer not having to run from everyone all the time.
