But that wouldn't work. What if the person learned all the spells and turned on you before you could learn the same through him? He'd have more experience.

Learning a spell doesn't necessarily mean a person is powerful enough to use it against someone much stronger than they are. Besides, if you're watching the person learn, you're already further ahead in the defense department. Watching people's failures isn't horrible.

It is, if you could've helped them instead.

That defeats the whole purpose though.

What would the purpose be of being powerful and make weaker people do dangerous things in your place, though?

It keeps you from dying, or worse. (Honestly, it really is like dealing with a child. I don't know how Hisoka handles this. Why do I bother?)
