They sound similar! Was Lhant hill strange in any way?

No, not as long as I had books to read.

Strange? I don't believe so, but I only saw it for myself once. It looked just like a typical flower field to me-- the only notable thing about it was the giant tree on the cliff.

You remind me of someone I know.

That sounds pretty. In Meifu the cherry trees grow in groves, not on cliffs.

Do I? I'll take that as a compliment, then.

The trees in my world normally grow in groves as well; this particular tree is a bit of an oddity in that sense, I suppose.

Say, are you familiar with electricity?

You mean that type of power the Malnosso recently gave us? Not beyond what I've read in a few books and my own experiences with the new appliances, no. Why do you ask?

Yes, that is what I meant. I am trying to figure out what your world was like. Mine began to use that power around.. fifty years ago? There are still cities that prefer not to use it, of course.

My world uses a type of stone known as criaths for power. The criaths store and channel arles-- it's the natural energy that sustains our world. With them, we can do things like power stoves and keep buildings cool even in the desert.

How wonderful. I don't think my world has something similar. Does your stones give people more strength, as well? Or long life?

Not that I've ever heard of, no. They're just used for energy sources and nothing more.

Did you have a different magic for people that got hurt?

We have healing magic as well, but it isn't powered by criaths.

You mean it's not already in your bodies?

The healing magic, you mean?

Yes, that.

I'm not sure exactly how it works-- I'm not a healer myself; my magic is limited to offensive spells only.

What does your offensive spells look like?

I only know four of them, but I can show you some day if you'd like.

I'd love that! But maybe I should see if I can still do some defensive magic first, since I'm not sure if I can do anything here.

What is your favorite spell called?

It's called Restless Sword. It's the second most powerful spell I know; the most powerful is Shade Imperial. However, it takes longer to cast, meaning it's riskier to use in battle.

It does sound riskier, if you're used to dueling or fighting one-on-one. Are you?

Actually, I'm not used to fighting in real battles at all, only sparring matches.

For me it's the opposite. My job means I have to focus on defense, but I don't get too many chances to spar.

May I ask what sort of job you have that requires defense?

I investigate murders, among other things. Sometimes that's not safe.
