Hear what? [There's an edge to his tone, though it's more grumpy than frightened. So far.]

I heard crying. It sounded like a little kid.

[His ears lie flat on his head as he returns to Hisoka's side.]

Can you hear it? Maybe we should investigate.

You're hearing things. [Says ~~the terribly adorable~~ Hisoka as he gives an annoyed tug to the puffy sleeves on his very girly dress (http://www.lolitafashion.org/images/sweet7.jpg).] I'd be able to tell if someone was that upset nearby.

Maybe that's why she's upset. Maybe she's bit by a demon, Hisoka. [He gives Hisoka a long, pleading look, trying hard not to talk about the frilly dress that he's tugging on.]

...Is that hard to wear?

There aren't any demons here. ...But I'll go with you if you're dead set on investigating.

...The hat gets annoying. [Shut up don't even. >|]

I think it looks pretty.

[His ears appear to perk up, just a little.] We can? I just want to be sure. It was bad enough when I heard you cry earlier.

I don't cry. Ever. And I'm not pretty.

But we'll check it out anyway. Where'd you hear it coming from? [He stands and lets Tsuzuki lead, though he appears to be wiggling his hips quite a bit more when he moves.]

That's what made it so alarming! [He reaches for Hisoka's hand, guiding him towards the door. He only glances quickly at Hisoka's hips before he turns away, cheeks turning pink.]

I heard it from east. It reminded me of someone.

[He lets his hand be held for the purpose of keeping an eye on his partner. The fog is thick enough to easily separate them otherwise. Nevermind how dainty his hand probably feels in Tsuzuki's ~~on a normal day since Hisoka as a pretty little girl isn't all that big of a stretch~~.]

Do you know who?

Yes. [He tugs more insistently on Hisoka's hand, noticing how, well, girly it feels. Tsuzuki knows better than to ever mention that to Hisoka, though. He pushes himself forward into the fog, his ears moving forward on his head. If dog's have a sixth sense for trouble, Tsuzuki is experiencing a touch of it.] This isn't right. Everything is like that time.

Like what time? [He's too busy frowning at Tsuzuki's ears because costume pieces really shouldn't be doing that.]

[And they certainly shouldn't be able to make the fur stand on edge.] Do you think there's another bomb? There's too much mist, I can't tell. [He almost pulls himself free from Hisoka's grip in his urge to find the mist-person.] We have to hurry, Hisoka!

[Another wh--?! ...Oh, wait. Tsuzuki's that old. That's right.] Tsuzuki -- stop panicking so much -- it'll be fine. [Though he doesn't sound very fine. Damn these stupid clunky girl shoes, making it hard to run properly.]

[He turns back to Hisoka, torn between wanting to believe him and seeing a hallucination in his peripheral vision. It's difficult to be calm and collected when years of nightmares are hunting you down.] Hisoka... I don't want you to go, too. [He let's go of Hisoka's hand because he needs both of them to cover his own ears.]

[He's well aware that a loss of contact meant they'd be separated for sure in the fog, so when Tsuzuki pulls away he'll have a Hisoka clinging to his waist.] I'm not going anywhere, understand?! Whatever you're seeing isn't there!! It's just us out here!

But the screams-- [The hug pushes him backwards, but the nudge brings him back to reality. Tsuzuki sucks in a breath, wrapping his arms around Hisoka. To his relief his partner is real and solid, instead of turning into smoke like the other hallucinations.]

[Now if only his heart could slow down to normal rate, things would be easier. Sadly, he tries to make Hisoka understand what one of his hallucinations was about.] They said- they said--

They said things that weren't true. [His voice is terribly firm, even as his hands start trembling. It's hard to keep his own heart rate down when Tsuzuki's is so high.] You're here with me. Just me. N-nobody else. Understand?

I- I understand. [The slight tremble in his partner's voice makes Tsuzuki aware that he's pushing himself. For all his bravado, Hisoka could be seeing his own inner demons in the fog. Just the thought of Muraki is enough to make Tsuzuki hold Hisoka a little tighter, pushing himself to act as strong as the empath.] Hisoka, let's go inside.

[Don't be silly. Hisoka was above hallucinating things that weren't there. They were together under the same red moonlight, weren't they? It had eclipsed over the regular one not long after they'd left the house.] We shouldn't have come out in the first place. It's not safe.

I know. I can still hear her crying. [Hisoka's hallucinations are as subtle as they are terrifying. Tsuzuki avoid looking into his eyes, while he focuses on a detail on Hisoka's dress instead. It's remarkable how intricate it looks when they're outside. Even Hisoka looks a little different.] I don't remember what direction we came from.

It's that way. [Intricate indeed. If they're outside much longer, he might even start sounding different, softer.] Tsubaki-hime's pointing the way. [And though it would generally be alarming and unsettling to be staring at the leering girl standing at the edge of visibility with a bloodied hole in her dress, Hisoka sees her often enough in his head to make her presence feel almost routine.]

Tsu...? [A soft whine building in his chest, Tsuzuki begins to understand the depth of his partner's nightmares. One of his hands grasp Hisoka's again, although the growing canine instinct in him would rather nuzzle his ear .] What else can you see?

Same things you can see. [He gave a light scratch behind Tsuzuki's ear without really thinking much about it.] Come on. We need to get you back inside. [He's tugging a little more briskly now because he's almost positive he just caught a glimpse of something silver in the deeper forest.]

[Having his ears scratched reminds Tsuzuki of having his wings petted. It's a good way to calm him down quickly and makes him lean against the hand. His ears flicker forward in question when Hisoka removes his hand.] I didn't see Tsubaki-hime. The girl I saw was younger.

[He follows Hisoka obediently, until a cold wind whips at them. Tsuzuki stops and refuses to budge.]

Either way. Just move. [His (Her?) grip tightens around Tsuzuki's paw, turning to face him in a sudden frenzy when he becomes immobile.] Why did you stop?!

[He's very quiet, which is strange for him. He turns to Hisoka, his grip growing more firm.] Let's go another way. Can we go left?

You're going to get us lost... [But she acquiesces anyway, and lets him guide her deeper left.]

I won't get us lost. I can smell the house. [Tsuzuki attempts to make them go in a C shape around the path they were planning on using. Since the path is clear, Hisoka can draw conclusions at will.]

That's stupid! It's just a costume -- you do know you're not really a dog, right? [She's kind of hop-stepping behind him, though. Running too fast made the skirt swish like a giant bell, forcing her to keep an arm down to steady it. The outfit was designed for standing around looking cute, not so much for gallivanting around the wilderness.]

I know that, but I can really smell it! It smells like dinner. [He looks over his shoulder to make sure Hisoka's not twisting his ankles in those shoes. He freezes and looks at his partner more closely. No costume should be able to make Hisoka actually look like a girl. Maybe it's another hallucination, not his partner.] Er, Hisoka?

[She pauses in her tracks, batting her long lashes and tilting her head to the side in an entirely feminine gesture.] What's wrong now? You don't like this way either? I told you you're not seeing anything real!

[If Hisoka's right, then the feminine figure is a hallucination, too. Tsuzuki tilts his head, his tail wagging slightly.] It's not that. Did you put on make-up before we left?

Why would I put on make-up anytime ever? [She crossed her arms and glowered out into the distance, though the anger only lasted until her attention rested on something in the trees.] We have to go. We have to go now. [She's not going to alarm Tsuzuki with details, but with Muraki so close the color's draining out of her cheeks.]

I don't know! In this light you looked - [He squeezes Hisoka's hand, taking a few steps back.] What did you see? [His tail puffs up and his ears lie flat on his head. They're not sharing the hallucination, which makes Tsuzuki feel remarkably helpless.] Where do you suggest we go?

..I don't know.. I.. [She's always tended to freeze like a deer in headlights during times of extreme panic. The scar pattern on her bare arms is beginning to flare up though, if that's any indication.] I can't.. I..

Shh. [The puppy's sixth sense makes him aware that his partner is struggling. It doesn't take a genius to know what's going on. Despite his own hallucination about a crying girl whose body is partly blown away, he leans close, gently pushing Hisoka back the way they came.] Hisoka, your arm. [He closes his eyes the moment he realizes what those marks are. Hisoka would probably not want him to look at them.]

[And if she was at all conscious of where Tsuzuki was looking, she might have been unsettled. But when prompted by the nudge, she sinks to her knees instead, crumpling in an almost elegant cloud of poofy, flowery lace. She whimpers in a small, wispy voice that struggles to be even that loud.] He's coming. Father sent him.

Who did your father send for? [Tsuzuki uses his body as a shield, holding Hisoka close as he slowly urges them backwards. He opens his eyes to keep them from falling. His hallucinations change in nature as he does so - Gone is the girl, instead Sargatanas appears in his line of vision, possessing a replica of his body. Tsuzuki flinches and whispers into Hisoka's ear.] He's not real, 'Soka. You're here with me.

The doctor. [Her muscles are stiff and wooden even with the prodding. She may have to be carried.] You have to leave. He's going to take you away again.

Your own father--[He's stopped short by how horrific that sounds to him. No loving parents should willingly call for the doctor if they knew what he could do.] No! I won't let him have you, either! [His arms encircles her waist, hauling her up over his shoulder. Enough is enough. If Muraki's in the mist Tsuzuki doesn't want to wait and see if he's a trick of their minds.]

[She doesn't object to being lifted, even if she's decidedly squishy and light in Tsuzuki's arms. She doesn't untense though.] He keeps trying to make me go to him. That I belong to him. [Her voice chokes up. It's easier to cry in this outfit, somehow.] You're not safe here!! J--just leave me. I'm slowing you down..

You don't belong to him. You belong to yourself. [It's easier to notice the soft crying when Hisoka's in that outfit, as well. Tsuzuki wants to offer comfort, but their positions make it difficult and he doesn't dare stop walking. He focuses on his own feelings for Hisoka, which the puppy outfit somehow amplifies. Loyalty and unconditional love mixed with sadness because Hisoka is sad.] I want to stay with you.

[It's a good warmth, and she appreciates it greatly She gives his upper arm a light squeeze, though that's all she can really reach from this angle.] ...you mean that?

[It takes a lot of energy to keep up the positive feelings, especially in this mist. He nuzzles her hand when Hisoka draws it back.] Yes. I don't want to lose you, too. [In his peripheral vision, Sargatanas beckons him. In front he sees his sister, deathly pale and bruised. It hurts to be reminded of them. Tsuzuki tries not to cry as he goes to his right. As long as he keeps walking, everything will be okay.]

Are we almost back? [In her higher pitch, it almost sounds childlike.] I hate it here.

Soon. Just close your eyes, if you want.

okay.. [She squeezes her eyes tightly shut and holds on as best as she can, as bent over as she is.]

[That's good. It's not much to offer, but it's the closest he can come to offering Hisoka a safe space.]

[Tsuzuki looks at the ground as he walks, to avoid the worst of the visions. The white roses he crushes under his feet are unsettling enough. Especially the way they bleed when his feet touches them.]

Do you want me to tell you a story?

Okay.. Just. No ghost stories, okay?

Mhm. Have you heard "The red oni who cried"?

[Of course she knew it, but that wouldn't solve the problem of giving them something to focus themselves.] ...I want to hear you tell it.

[Hisoka's hugged before Tsuzuki begins to retell the ancient story. He mistakes a few details because his attention is caught by visions, though he struggles to keep himself together.]

Once upon a time there were two oni. One was red and one was blue, and they were the best of friends. Red loved humans and wanted nothing more than to be one of them, although he was happy with Blue. But since the humans had heard stories about oni who ate humans, they stayed away from him out of fear. It hurt him terribly, but he didn't give up.

[Tsuzuki stops walking and talking. His tail hangs tiredly as he pants.]

[Her brow furrows deeply as she struggles to focus on the story and not the wispy ethereal sounds she's hearing. It feels like once she's decided to shut out the visual hallucinations, the audible ones grow more intense, more cloying. Some summoned, others shunned. Some were so loud they felt like untamed thoughts, might have been her own -- but no. Tsuzuki. Focus on Tsuzuki. Except it's hard to keep focused on him when he stops like that.]

...Did something happen..? [Her eyes fluttered open to check in on her partner, but her concern was quickly dwarfed by a solid shriek. When did Tsuzuki have time to pass her over to Sargatanas' claws? Where exactly had they been leading all this time?! Stupid. She'd been stupid. She frantically claws and struggles against Tsuzuki's grip, seeing his hands as clawed paws and imagining that he'd already torn and shredded her skirt.] WHERE IS TSUZUKI??? WHAT DID YOU DO WITH HIM?!

[The reason he stopped was because the adrenaline had left his body. Suddenly carrying Hisoka became very tiring.]

[When Hisoka screams, Tsuzuki turns sharply. He'd rather be face to face with their assailant. Except he doesn't see anyone. The flailing makes him hold on tighter to Hisoka's legs, scared that she'd hurt herself.] I didn't do anything! Calm down!

[But the sudden turn and tighter grip only made her kick harder and scratch desperately at Tsuzuki's back.] I'M NOT GOING WITH YOU UNTIL YOU STOP LYING!! TELL ME WHERE TSUZUKI IS!

[Tsuzuki staggers. Having Hisoka scratching at his wings is really unpleasant. He sets her down, although he doesn't let go. In this mist he knows that's a bad idea, and he can survive some kicks.] Stop! Stop! If you stop I'll take you to where he is!

[With both feet back on the ground, her panic settled somewhat.] ...If I get the slightest inkling that we're headed to Hell, deal's off. Understand? [It was hard to look imposing in a frilly dress with lacy shoes, but she's trying her damndest.]

[Tsuzuki gasps loudly and covers his mouth with his paw.] To Hell? But I don't want you to go to hell! [He looks sorrowfully at Hisoka, who reminds him of a kitten that just realized it could puff out its fur. They were both not very imposing, but had very sharp claws.]

You never told me that Sargatanas wanted to steal you away.

Either make sense or stop talking. [He snarls, walking as far as he can manage while he's still being held like that.]

[This illusion is close to one of Tsuzuki's nightmares. He tries to keep his chin up.] We have to go past Luka's body and into the rose garden. Tsuzuki will be there. [He points towards their house, without knowing so.]

[OOC: use when I come back. >>;]

[That would be fine and well, if the house wasn't on fire at the moment.] You know I can survive that, right? [He's not entirely sure, but now isn't really the time to back down.]

Survive? [Tsuzuki gives him a genuinely puzzled look.] What do you see, Hisoka?

I see the fire you set. Really, it's not like you to be so melodramatic about your killing.

[That hurts him. He remembers being blamed for something like that a long time ago. Except it's too blurry to remember and he prefers to keep it that way. Tsuzuki tugs on Hisoka's skirt to get her attention.] Hisoka, there's no fire. I would never do something like that on purpose.

[Also I am sorry for this post and want to offer Tsuzuki a cookie instead. =X]

Shut up, Demon. [Oh, he's got her attention, but that still doesn't mean she's seeing anything clearly.]

[That's as effective as Hisoka would have slapped him in the face. Tsuzuki looks away so he can blink away tears, nodding weakly.]

[Nevertheless, he leads Hisoka the small distance to the house. He couldn't leave her out in the mist.]

[She still dug her heels into the ground in quiet resistance, but she followed eventually, flinching openly when they stepped back over the hearth leading back indoors.]

[He sniffles sadly as he helps Hisoka inside, but he's still mostly silent. The change in mood makes Tsuzuki feel a little safer, though that only makes him want to cry more.]

[OOC: Shakespeare for a while. My birthday's the 20th and I always get like this around then. XD "OH SHIT I'M GONNA BE HOW OLD?? /flips out, hiatuses" ...Last year I spent my hiatus tagging dressingrooms for a week. >>;]

[...Things in here are decidedly not on fire. Slowly, he opens his eyes, unsure which reality was actually happening.] ...Tsu..zuki..?

[ooc: but I hope that everything will turn out well. I wish I had known it was your birthday earlier, though. I'll be sure to look for soem dressing rooms if I miss you too much, then. <<;]

[There are no roses here, either. Tsuzuki thinks one wall is bleeding, but it's still better than outside. He takes a shaky breath and returns to Hisoka's side. It wasn't his partner's fault that he had hallucinations, after all.]

[OOC: community. xD And ACK NO DON'T DO THAT if I hang around DRs this year too it means I'm STILL not doing what I should be. xD /WILL GRADUATE SOMEDAY.]

[Tsuzuki feels so sad now... But even his empathy is suspect right now. He stares up at Tsuzuki, the corners of his mouth trembling dangerously.] ....It's you. Right?

[ooc: but if you hang around dressing rooms it means you haven't satisfied your RP fix. YAY GRADUATING. Now you'll be an adult!]

[He takes a step back, closing the door behind them. He doesn't want some of the mist to seep in. Tsuzuki also don't want Hisoka to realize that he's hurting] Yes. It's me.

Are you yourself again?

[OOC: Weeeeelll it's already too late in the semester to graduate before the Spring even if I finish another draft and my adviser approves it before the end of November. (which she won't because I've been trying to make this thing happen since January of last year and it's part of my lack of drive ;_; ) BUT I'm not planning on giving up on the MA either, so. That's where that is. AND THEN WE HIATUS. Possibly tomorrow. I need to nab Ty and possibly check in with Sol because baby!Hisoka might ping Harry too. XD]

[There's still a threatening tremor in his voice, through he's trying to swallow it away.] I don't know. I don't know if this is real.

[ooc: Sounds complicated, still, I know you can do it! Don't give up on the MA. Your advisor doesn't sound entirely nice, but I'm sure she means well. I can really relate to having no drive, so I really do hope that you'll succeed before it gets too exhausting. If they'll both be pinged by wee!Hisoka, I should probably grab them too. That way we can plot some shenanigans for when you come home.]

I think I'm me. [Tsuzuki wipes his cheeks just in case, then turns to Hisoka with a hopeful smile.] Ask me something only I would know. Maybe that'll work.

[He shakes his head] Too easy if we're both just hearing things. ...I hate this.

[Normally he'd ask Hisoka to touch him and feel that he's still Tsuzuki, but since he's still hurt he doesn't want to push that at his partner.] I want to take a nap. I'm tired.

At least we managed to get home. You won't go out into the mist again, right? At least tell me first.

Yeah.. Go ahead. I'm staying down here. [He makes a mechanical motion toward the couch, fully intending to huddle up into himself and lie awake for the next several days.]

Then I'll stay down here, too. [First one to the couch gets it.]

... Do what you want. [They can share. Hisoka's not going to take up much room, curled up against an arm and half-hanging over the edge.]

[This distrust really sucks, but the only thing that sucks more is to spend the night upstairs and alone. He curls up on his own edge of the couch.] Could you do me one favor, Hisoka?

Yeah? [It's not mistrust as much as it is his kneejerk instinct to crave his lonely little cage whenever emotions get to be too much for him.]

[Which is why Tsuzuki's giving him his space. He tries to look at him as he speaks.] It's just... Could you not call me a demon? I'd really appreciate that.

[Unfortunately, Hisoka doesn't return the gesture. It's easier to talk to someone without eye contact.] ....You know I wasn't talking to you. Right?

[He receives a hesitant nod in return. Tsuzuki wasn't certain, though that was the mist's fault.] It just felt like you did.

Well it felt wrong. [He lowers his head, sighing softly.] ...Don't get up for a while, okay? Floor'll kill you.

Huh? [He leans over to look at the floor. If the bad visions have crept further into the house he was going to-- Oh. Tsuzuki gets up again and scoots closer to Hisoka.] At least the couch is still safe.

For now. [He'll even be accepting Tsuzuki's closeness, sinking back to settle in his arms. He's messed up enough to not care that they're officially cuddling in the middle of the living room. here are more important things.]

It can't get worse than outside. [Tsuzuki's response is slow, because he's getting lost in his own thoughts, but he pulls Hisoka into a hug. No one in the house will care. They'll be too busy recovering from their own visions.]

Of course it can. [But the hug is nice enough to keep him settled for now.]

Then we better enjoy it while it lasts. [There's a stray tear sliding down his cheek, although Tsuzuki doesn't seem to notice. He was too shell-shocked to properly reach when they were outside, so all of it's crashing down on him now. Getting a hug helps, at least.]

[He settles against Tsuzuki, clinging as he's being clung to. The only thing he knows for sure right now is that he's here with Tsuzuki, and that he needs to keep awake and alert enough to not lose sight of that again. It might be a long couple of nights for them both.]

[Some very long nights. Having Hisoka close helps. He just needs a moment to digest seeing the visions of people he had lost a long time ago.]

[He closes his eyes and tries to wish his tears away, if only for Hisoka's benefit.]...Sorry.

Don't be. [He's never really minded sharing Tsuzuki's pain. He even goes so far as to wipe at his partner's eyes, nestling his head against Tsuzuki's shoulder and bringing his face terribly close as a gesture of trust.]

[Tsuzuki wishes that he hadn't seen the bloody nightmares in the mist. It opened up a path in his memory that he doesn't want to go down.]

[At least Hisoka's presence grounds him safely in the moment. He appreciates the gestures more than he can say, but since he's already a little fragile it simply means he cries more. With a small sniffle, he cradles Hisoka close.] I feel so useless.

Ssh... [He strokes at Tsuzuki's hair, fingers giving his bangs a light petting.] You're not useless. I need you. Understand?

[Tsuzuki leans into the touch, afraid that it's just another illusion. Hesitantly, he nods. His emotions might already reveal what he feels towards his partner, but he decides to say it out loud as well.] I need you, too.

Good. [And before he knows what he's doing, his lips are pressing just under Tsuzuki's mouth.]

[It's unexpected, not welcome. He blinks away tears, wondering if he imagined the kiss or not.]

[Tsuzuki hesitates. He pays close attention to Hisoka's next move, since that will tell whether he should act on it or pretend the kiss never happened. He realizes that it took quite a lot of courage of his partner, so he rubs his back.]

[It was intentional, sort of, though he doesn't repeat it, instead settling back down on Tsuzuki's chest and looking up into his deep violet stare. He assumes the message was properly conveyed.]

[He may act like an imbecile, but he understands important gestures like this. Tsuzuki holds Hisoka's gaze. He rarely get a chance to do it, so he treasures it. Thanks for creating this island of peace in the middle of a nightmare, Hisoka.]

I love you, too.

[Likewise, partner.]

[There's a tiny whisper of something on Hisoka's face that tries and fails to be a smile. He nods instead.]

[Tsuzuki knows that he went past their comfort zones by admitting that, but after tonight he felt it was necessary to tell Hisoka that just once.]

[He also knows that Hisoka's nod is as close he comes to saying anything in return, and that is all right.]

[OOC: already and another's a shiki that I purposely miscolored because there weren't as many baby!Hisoka scenes as I thought there were. >>;; I forget which one BUT STILL.]

[He clings a little tighter, snuggles somewhat, and closes his eyes to try finding some semblance of sleep, as much as he's aware that it won't happen.]

[He runs his fingers slowly through Hisoka's hair, keeping his eyes open just in case the house springs a trap on them. But his eyelids are getting heavier.]

[Tsuzuki moves his partner between him and the back of the couch, so he won't fall out of their make-shift raft.]

[OOC: manga -- ilu so much. <33 And will be coloring more now :3 /is so bad at it BUT PAINTING ON LINEART. --Or maybe I'll just type that and color for a couple of hours and not actually write the reply. I NEED TO STAY ON POINT. :|]

[He tries to let himself calm down in tandem with Tsuzuki like he normally does, but it's harder when he's this jumpy. His eyes shoot open when Tsuzuki decides to move him, half-expecting to be somewhere else once he pays attention again.]

[Hisoka can be so transparent sometimes. Tsuzuki simply continues to hold him, offering his partner strength.]

Yeah. Likewise. [Because he's pretty much decided to never sleep again ever, so if someone tries to stab Tsuzuki while he's asleep, Hisoka'll be ON TOP OF IT.]

[Tsuzuki radiates surprised, warm delight. After his bad luck with past partners, luxuries like having someone to watch his back is not taken for granted. Hisoka is proving to be one of his better partners. He brushes his fingers through Hisoka's feathers.] ...Thank you, 'Soka.

[OOC: And the dead sistergrave dream is the one I found -- it's where the Hisoka-and-the-bunny icon came from. I love that bunny so much. ;_;]

[His cheeks color in response to Tsuzuki's abrupt happiness, though he's nowhere near smiling himself.] Yeah. Whatever. Don't worry about it.

[ooc: Great! Man, the idea of him having a bunny-teddy is one of the sweetest things ever. Will he have one when he comes back as a kid, or will he have lost it?]

[The left one suddenly goes tight, as if someone's tugging on it. Tsuzuki's ears perk up.]

We can't stay here. Besides, it might be someone who needs help!

[Luckily, the mist begins to evaporate as they get closer to the house, which makes the visions fade.] ...They've stopped screaming.
